Short answer
Most of the time we are successful, but no one can honestly guarantee recovery until the data is actually retrieved. If the data is still on your device, we have the tools and expertise to recover it, and if something makes it unrecoverable, such as a deleted file on an SSD or a hard drive with a scratched platter, we will tell you the real reason. We never guarantee or overpromise at the outset.
What is the chance of recovering my data?
There is never any guarantee that your data can be recovered until the point that we actually retrieve it. Having been doing this since 1998, I can affirm that most of the time we are successful.
If I encounter a customer at our reception desk or office and they implore, “Please, please, can you promise me you’ll do it?”, generally, depending on the nature of the issue, I will state, “Yes, there is a good chance.” If I know it is not possible, I will say, “Look, there is no guarantee; we need to simply attempt and hope for the best.” However, I can assure you that we possess the necessary expertise. We have every possible tool, technology, and skilled professional in the industry dedicated to this type of work.
If the data is on your device, whether it is a hard drive, phone, SSD, or server, we will retrieve it. We understand what to do and how to do it. As long as the data exists, we will recover it for you; it merely requires time. If, for some reason, something has occurred that renders it unrecoverable, we will provide you with the explanation. For example, erasing a file on an SSD, a message on a phone, or a hard drive with a scratched platter. Certain scenarios like these are impossible. There is no technology, nor is there anyone in the world, who can perform such recoveries in those scenarios. If we identify such a situation, we will inform you. We will state, “Look, it cannot be recovered due to that reason, and there is no other method.” We will be honest with you and tell you the real reason. We never guarantee or overpromise at the outset.
We do advertise certain things, such as mobile phones having a high success rate of 99%, which is genuinely based on the jobs we receive. However, if someone contacts us about something we cannot do, we inform them before they visit. We state, “Look, if you have a disabled iPhone due to too many incorrect password attempts, if you have factory reset your MacBook, if you have an SSD that has snapped into 10 pieces, or been run over by a lawnmower, we will tell you, ‘Look, there is no chance, do not bring it to us if you have a cracked memory chip.'”
Generally speaking, I would probably say that the vast majority of the time, data can be recovered, provided you do not present us with those impossible scenarios. The remainder typically involves read errors, damaged files, or corrupted files.
