How much does data recovery cost?
The assessment is free and you get a written quote before any work begins. Economy service for most hard drives, SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards is usually between $350 and $1,750, and more for special cases such as damaged heads on very large drives that need costly donor drives, or Emergency service. RAID and NAS jobs usually cost from $2,500 to $6,500 on Economy, and a basic backup from healthy drives starts at $350. Phones and tablets are a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. You see your files before you pay. Full prices by device are on our data recovery cost page.
What happens if the data cannot be recovered?
For most faults there is nothing to pay unless the data is recovered. Some high risk work, such as head replacement, a dead SSD controller, deleted or reformatted drives and RAID recovery, carries an attempt fee that is part of the quoted price and is always stated in the quote before you approve it. Phone and tablet recoveries are a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. You see your files before you pay. The rare exception is a complex logic board transplant that needs an expensive or uncommon donor phone. If your phone needs one, we quote the extra cost first, and you choose whether to go ahead. These rare cases usually cost $1,500 to $2,500, plus any donor phone or parts we need to buy.
How long does it take?
Economy service is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Priority and Emergency services bring that down to a few days, and the Emergency service is our fastest. We offer fast service in Sydney, Rhodes NSW, Melbourne and Brisbane, and devices delivered to our Perth or Adelaide offices go to our lab in Rhodes, NSW the same day, each afternoon, by overnight courier at no cost to you. We never promise a same-day start, because the fastest safe method depends on the fault. The quote tells you the timeframe for your job.
Do you offer clean room data recovery?
Hard drives with damaged heads are opened in an ISO 5 certified laminar flow cabinet, a dust free and ESD safe environment, at our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW. Most other work is done at the lab where you hand the device in.
Is my data kept private?
Your device and your recovered files stay in our Australian labs and are handled only by our own data recovery engineers; nothing is sent overseas. A backup of recovered data is kept for two weeks after collection or posting, then securely erased. We sign confidentiality agreements on request.
Can I post my device to you?
Yes, from anywhere in Australia or overseas. Pack it in a box with bubble wrap on every side, use a tracked and insured service, and submit a new job first to get your job number and the address label. Recovered data comes back on a new drive, and return delivery is free once you have paid for a successful recovery.
Can you recover a locked iPhone if I forgot the passcode?
No, and neither can anyone else. Apple’s encryption means data cannot be recovered from a locked iPhone without the passcode. If you changed the passcode in the last 72 hours, Apple’s previous passcode option on supported iOS versions may let you back in, as our iPhone Unavailable guide explains. If the phone is damaged and you know the passcode, we can usually help.
