When your iPhone, iPad, MacBook or iMac stops working and the data on it matters, you need a lab that understands Apple’s hardware encryption and has the parts and tools to work at component level, as our labs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane do. Payam Data Recovery is one of three data recovery companies listed on Apple’s own data recovery page, for Australia and internationally, and has been listed there since 2016. We have four full service labs in Sydney CBD, Rhodes NSW, Melbourne and Brisbane, plus secure drop-off offices in Adelaide and Perth.
Why Apple customers come to us. Apple Retail Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers refer customers to us when data recovery is needed. If Apple staff hand you one of our business cards with a discount code, bring it with you: it gives you a discount on the recovery.
Being listed by Apple gives us access to Apple’s GSX (Global Service Exchange) system, so we can buy genuine Apple tools and parts and follow Apple’s procedures on the most complex recovery work, with your privacy protected throughout.
Our team includes Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians (ACMT) and Apple Certified iOS Technicians (ACiT) who work with Apple’s hardware and software encryption every day.
We provide our specialised data recovery services to Apple Retail Stores, Apple Authorised Service Providers, Apple employees and Apple customers across Australia and internationally.

Law Enforcement & Extreme Physical Damage Specialists:
Payam Data Recovery has completed many jobs for law enforcement agencies including the Australian Federal Police, NSW Police, VIC Police and other state police forces when Apple iPhones and MacBooks have been physically damaged in fires, bent, snapped in half, drowned in rivers, damaged by liquid, or physically smashed or broken. We assist their forensic teams with lawful and ethical data recovery on physically damaged devices needed for important cases. Physically damaged iPhones are the work our team is best known for.
Professional Mobile Forensic Tools:
We use professional mobile forensic tools for phone data recovery including Cellebrite Insights and Cellebrite UFED, allowing low-level extraction from iPhones in the event that the operating system or file system is corrupted/damaged. We also use Cellebrite Physical Analyzer as a tool that allows us to take a full dump/image of a memory chip from a mobile phone/iPhone/iPad and process with this tool/software as needed. Our staff are trained and certified to use these tools professionally.
My iPhone Will Not Turn On and Apple Cannot Help
This is the call we take most often. The Apple Store has looked at the phone, it will not turn on or it is stuck on the Apple logo, and the only option offered is a replacement, which means the data is gone. That is where our work starts.
The data on an iPhone can only be read from its original logic board, with your passcode. So we repair that board, at component level, just far enough for the phone to start and let us make a full backup. Dead power chips, shorted lines, liquid corrosion and drop damage are everyday jobs for our iPhone engineers, and when the board itself is broken we move the memory and the paired chips onto a donor board.
iPhone and iPad recovery is a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. You see your files before you pay. Post the phone from anywhere in Australia or overseas, or drop it at any of our offices. Start on our iPhone and iPad data recovery page.

Professional iPhone logic board repair for data recovery
Severely damaged iPhone: we can still recover your data
Advanced iPhone logic board data recovery techniques
All iPhone models, including the latest releases. Apple’s hardware encryption means we always need your passcode, and the data can only come back from the original logic board, which is why we repair the board rather than replace it.
MacBook Data Recovery
Our MacBook Speciality. Problems We Solve Daily:
- Won’t charge or turn on: completely dead MacBooks
- Dropped MacBooks: physical damage from impacts
- Liquid damage: coffee, water, or other spills causing logic board failure
- “Dead logic board” diagnosis: the point where a repair usually stops is where our data recovery work starts
All MacBook Storage Types:
- Newer models: Integrated SSD on motherboard requiring chip transplant
- Mid-range models: Removable NVMe SSD recovery
- Older models: Traditional 2.5″ hard drive recovery

Professional SSD data recovery techniques for Apple devices

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, all generations, with component-level logic board repair. On T2 and Apple silicon models the storage is encrypted and tied to the logic board, which is why we repair the original board to reach the data and why your login password is needed.

- Traditional 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drives from older models
- NVMe SSD recovery from integrated motherboard systems

Apple Models We Support and What the Recovery Involves
We recover data from every Apple device that stores it: iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacBook Neo, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro, from the first models with a hard drive to the current Apple silicon models. What changes from one family to the next is where the data lives and what we need from you, so here is the short version for each.
iPhone
Every iPhone from the iPhone 4 of 2010 to the current iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air and iPhone 17e, including the iPhone 6 and 6s, iPhone 7 and 8, iPhone X, XR and XS, the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 families and all three iPhone SE generations. Every one of them stores its data on memory soldered to the logic board and encrypted by the phone’s own hardware, so the data can only be read from the original board, and only with your passcode. That is why we repair the board rather than swap it, and why a phone that will not turn on, is stuck on the Apple logo, or has been in water is usually still recoverable. See our iPhone data recovery service (fixed price, nothing to pay upfront) and the dead iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 Pro salt water case studies.
iPad
Every iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro, from the original iPad of 2010 to the current M-series iPad Air and iPad Pro. iPads are built the same way as iPhones: storage soldered to the logic board, hardware encryption, passcode required. Cracked, bent, liquid damaged and dead iPads are recovered the same way and at the same fixed prices as iPhones, through our phone and tablet data recovery service.
MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and MacBook Neo
Three generations, three different jobs. The MacBook Pro of 2012 and earlier, and the white and aluminium MacBook, have a standard 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD, which we recover like any laptop drive. The MacBook Air from 2010 to 2017, the MacBook Pro with Retina display from 2012 to 2015 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro of 2016 and 2017 without the Touch Bar use a removable Apple SSD, so we read the drive on our own equipment and a dead logic board does not stop the recovery. The 12-inch MacBook of 2015 to 2017 and the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar of 2016 and 2017 have the SSD soldered to the logic board, so the board itself is repaired to reach the data. The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro of 2018 to 2020 with the Apple T2 chip, and every Apple silicon Mac from the M1 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro of 2020 through the M2, M3 and M4 models to the current MacBook Pro and the 2026 MacBook Neo, keep the storage soldered and encrypted with keys that live inside the chip, so the SSD chips cannot be read on their own. When the board is dead (no power, liquid damage, will not turn on) we repair it temporarily, just far enough to log in with your password and back up everything. When the board cannot be repaired, such as a hole through the board, fire damage or a crack, we transfer the SSD chips and the other key chips (the T2 or M-series chip and the encryption chips) onto an identical donor board in our lab, a delicate job we call a logic board transplant. Either way we need your login password. See our MacBook data recovery service and the T2 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air M2 and 14-inch MacBook Pro liquid damage case studies.
iMac
The 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac from 2012 to 2019 has a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard drive, an Apple blade SSD, or a Fusion Drive that pairs the two. We take the screen off, remove the drive and recover it as we would any other drive; a Fusion Drive needs both halves read and joined, which is a job we see often. The 27-inch iMac of 2020 with the T2 chip, the iMac Pro, and every 24-inch iMac from the M1 of 2021 to the current model keep the storage encrypted and tied to the logic board, so a dead iMac gets the same temporary board repair or logic board transplant as a MacBook, not a drive swap. See our iMac data recovery service and the iMac Fusion Drive and iMac that would not turn on case studies.
Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro
The Mac mini from 2010 to 2014 has a standard 2.5-inch drive, an Apple blade SSD, or both as a Fusion Drive, all removable. The Mac mini of 2018 with the T2 chip and the M1, M2 and M4 Mac mini keep the storage encrypted and tied to the logic board, even on the M4 where it sits on a small module. The Mac Pro of 2013 has a removable blade SSD. The Mac Pro of 2019 with the T2 chip, the Mac Pro with M2 Ultra of 2023, and every Mac Studio from the M1 Max and M1 Ultra models of 2022 onwards use storage modules paired to the machine’s own chip, so a failed logic board is repaired temporarily to log in and back up, or the storage and the paired chips are transplanted onto an identical board. Tell us the model and the symptom on the free quote form and we will tell you what the recovery involves.
We can help with all of these Apple devices and more. Whether you need data recovery for your iMac, MacBook, iPhone, iPad, Mac mini, Mac Pro or Mac Studio, our team handles component-level repair, logic board reconstruction and chip transplant procedures for the most complex cases.
What We Cannot Recover (Apple Security Limitations)
Important: Apple’s security architecture prevents recovery in the situations below. We say this plainly so you do not spend money on a job that cannot succeed:
iPhone & iPad Limitations:
- Disabled/Unavailable devices: We cannot bypass “iPhone Unavailable” or “iPad Disabled” messages from incorrect passcode attempts
- Factory reset devices: Once reset, data is permanently encrypted and unrecoverable
- Deleted data: We cannot recover deleted messages, photos, apps or any deleted content from iPhones/iPads
- Unknown passcodes: Your correct passcode/PIN is always required due to Apple’s hardware encryption
MacBook, iMac & SSD Limitations:
- Erased or deleted data on T2 and Apple silicon Macs: the internal storage is encrypted and TRIM clears deleted blocks, so erased or deleted files cannot be recovered
- Unknown passwords: Your correct login password is essential for accessing encrypted Apple computers
- Older Macs with a hard drive or a removable SSD. These are different: deleted or reformatted data can sometimes be recovered, so ask us before assuming it is gone
Why These Limitations Exist:
Apple’s security architecture is designed to protect user privacy through hardware-level encryption. While this creates excellent security, it means data recovery has strict limitations that no company can overcome, even with Apple recommendation. For more information about data recovery principles and techniques, see the overview on Wikipedia.
What We CAN Help With:
Physical damage, liquid damage, hardware failures, and component-level issues where your device won’t boot but you know your correct passcode/password.
Our Data Recovery Process for Apple Devices
Step 1: Apple Store Visit (Recommended)
Visit an Apple Store first to document the fault and receive a repair case number. This helps protect your warranty status. Apple staff may provide you with our business card including a special discount code.
Step 2: Free Assessment (1-2 Days)
Bring your device to any of our four labs, or to our Adelaide or Perth secure drop-off office, for professional assessment. Our ACMT and ACiT certified data recovery engineers will diagnose the fault and tell you what recovery is possible.
Step 3: Genuine Parts & Expert Recovery
Using genuine Apple parts sourced through our Apple GSX access, we perform component-level repairs, chip-off recovery, or logic board transplants as needed to recover your data.
Step 4: Data Delivery Options
For MacBooks, iMacs & Apple Computers:
Your recovered files are delivered on an external USB hard drive or USB-C SSD. We can format drives for Apple (Mac) or Windows compatibility based on your preference.
For iPhones & iPads:
- Complete iTunes/iPhone backup file for easy restoration
- Camera roll backup (all photos and videos)
- Full iCloud backup restoration directly to your iCloud account
- This lets you restore everything to a new iPhone or iPad after our recovery work
Why Apple Customers Choose Payam Data Recovery
Listed by Apple, with Apple GSX Access
Being listed by Apple gives us access to genuine parts and Apple’s official repair procedures, which lifts success rates and keeps the device as intact as the recovery allows.
Component-Level Expertise
Apple devices use sophisticated hardware and software encryption. Our data recovery engineers specialise in component-level repair and chip-off techniques specifically designed for Apple’s security systems.
Professional Mobile Forensic Equipment
We invest in professional mobile forensic tools including Cellebrite Insights, Cellebrite UFED, and Cellebrite Physical Analyzer for low-level data extraction from iPhones when standard methods fail. The Physical Analyzer allows us to take a full dump/image of a memory chip from mobile phones/iPhones/iPads and process the data as needed. These tools let us recover data even when the operating system or file system is severely corrupted. Our data recovery engineers are trained on them.

Liquid Damage Specialists
We recover data from liquid damaged Apple devices, from salt water iPhones to coffee spills on MacBook logic boards. Phones and tablets are a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. You see your files before you pay.
Physical Damage Recovery
Fire, bending, crushing and water are the cases that reach us after every other option has been tried. The same skills we use on the law enforcement work described above bring back a family’s photos from a phone that has been run over or snapped in half.
National Service for Apple Device Data Recovery
We have four full service labs with data recovery engineers in Sydney CBD, Rhodes NSW, Melbourne and Brisbane, plus secure drop-off offices in Adelaide and Perth that send devices to our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW each day at no cost to you. International customers are always welcome. The easiest way to reach us from overseas is by email at help@payam.com.au, which works in every time zone.
Data Recovery Pricing for Apple Devices
iPhone and iPad Recovery: Fixed Price, Nothing to Pay Upfront
iPhone and iPad recovery is a fixed price service with three options. Economy is $795 and takes 1 to 2 weeks. Priority is $1,500 and takes 4 to 7 days. Emergency is $2,500 and is our fastest service. We never promise a same-day start, because the fastest safe method depends on the fault. Turnaround times are averages and depend on the complexity and rarity of the case. There is no assessment fee on phones and tablets. Phone and tablet recoveries are a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. You see your files before you pay. The rare exception is a complex logic board transplant that needs an expensive or uncommon donor phone. If your phone needs one, we quote the extra cost first, and you choose whether to go ahead. These rare cases usually cost $1,500 to $2,500. You will need to know the passcode. All prices include GST.

Warranty & Apple Recommendation Information
Important: While we are recommended by Apple for data recovery services, any hardware modifications we perform may impact your device warranty or AppleCare coverage. Apple makes warranty decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Best Practice: Visit Apple first to document the issue and receive a repair case number. This creates an official record that your device was faulty before data recovery services.
Apple’s Position: Apple states that if a company it recommends modifies a product while performing data recovery, Apple will not exclude warranty coverage on that basis. The cost of the recovery itself is not covered by the Apple Limited Warranty or AppleCare. For complete details about warranty implications, see Apple’s data recovery and warranty page.
