Short answer
Yes. We do not give a statement by default, but if Apple needs one we will provide it at no charge. The best approach is to take your device to Apple first so they record a repair case number, then come to us. After we recover your data, take your device back to Apple with that number and our receipt or invoice, and they will generally still honour the previous agreement. We are listed by Apple as a recommended data recovery provider, but some work might void a warranty, so we warn you ahead of time.
Can you write us a statement so that we can still use the Apple warranty?
Yes, we can definitely do that. The process I’d recommend if you have an Apple device like an iPhone or a MacBook, they’re very expensive, and we understand that the warranty is important to save you buying another one. Apple has their own strict warranty procedures. We are one of the few companies that Apple lists as a recommended data recovery provider for customers whose devices are under warranty.
They do reserve the right to say the warranty is void and void all hardware support. There are very strict terms and conditions. A lot of the work that we do might be very invasive component level repair things that they might deem to be voiding the warranty. So, when you deal with us, we do warn you ahead of time that any work we do might void the warranty. For example, for iPhone recovery, we only charge $800 for our service (prices are subject to change), and we can’t be paying, you know, $2700 to replace your phone if you’ve got top of the range one if the warranty is void. So we’re not responsible for that.
The best way to avoid any kind of loss on your side is to take your damaged Apple device, whether it’s a MacBook or iPhone or anything else, take it to Apple first and let them test it, make sure there’s a repair number or repair case number on their default systems. I’m not sure about their company systems. Normally their technicians or Apple geniuses will record what the problem is, serial number, details like that. They give you a repair number. That way, once you come to us next, we recover your data for you. In some cases we temporarily repair the device. Other times we might give it back to you in the original condition, but it’ll still be dead. And then when we give you an external hard drive or an SSD with your files on it, you can go take your device back to Apple. You could tell them that you’ve come to Payam Data Recovery. We don’t normally give you a letter or statement by default. They can look up the repaired number, check that it was originally faulty, and that, you know, you could show a receipt or invoice or emails from us that you’ve come to us, and they’ll generally still honor the previous agreement they had with you.
If for some reason there’s some dispute, some disagreement, then we’re happy to put a PDF letter, company letterhead explaining exactly what we did. We recover data probably from at least 5,000 Apple devices per year, and I think maybe only once or twice a year we get a request for that. And it’s normally because the phone was already badly damaged before it came to us. It’s all in pieces and we recover the data and maybe Apple, yeah, kind of questions if you see that we worked on it because it’s so badly damaged, because the things we do are generally pristine and they go back perfectly. So the answer is yes. We’re not going to give you a statement unless you really need it. It’s not something that we spend time on. We hate admin work. We’re trying to automate all that in our business. But if for some reason you need it, let us know what details you need. We’ll give you a statement. We’re not going to charge you for it, but we’ll just ask, try and be considerate of our time. Don’t ask for it unless you really need it and unless Apple requires it.
