Short answer
Yes. A drive damaged by the wrong power adapter is usually one of the easier fixes among complex issues, and these jobs generally have a high success rate. We either temporarily repair the circuit board or replace it with a compatible one from our stock of spare parts, then copy your data to a new drive. Bring it in for a free assessment and quote.
Generally, these jobs have a high success rate and are considered one of the easier fixes for the more complex issues we encounter.
This usually occurs if an incompatible power supply has been connected to an external drive.
For instance, if a laptop charger or another inappropriate power adapter is mistakenly plugged into the external drive’s power port, it often supplies excessive power to the drive.
You might notice a burning odor or observe a previously solid light on the power supply now blinking, indicating damage to the PCB or circuit board of the hard drive.
Fortunately, circuit boards are equipped with protective fuses or diodes that typically prevent internal damage.
Therefore, we generally attempt to either temporarily repair the circuit board or replace it with a compatible one. We currently maintain an inventory of over 30,000 donor parts, including around 20,000 donor hard drives.
Upon bringing your device to us, we offer a complimentary assessment and quote. We will diagnose the issue, provide a price, and upon your approval, we will typically back up and copy all data to a new drive for you.
