Phones and tablets are a fixed price with no assessment or quote: the work starts when you submit the job. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. Phones and tablets have no attempt fee. You see your files before you pay.

What Sydney Customers Bring Us
Every brand and every kind of device: a clicking hard drive from a Windows desktop, a Dell or HP laptop that will not boot, an external drive that was dropped, a RAID or NAS unit with failed disks, a Samsung or Google phone, a memory card from a camera, a USB stick that no longer mounts. Apple devices are a large part of the work too: iPhones that no longer turn on, MacBooks that will not power up or have had a drink spilled across the keyboard, and SSDs that have stopped being recognised. IT companies and computer shops across NSW refer their customers’ failed drives to our data recovery engineers.
Where Your Device Is Recovered
Most of the work is done here at Castlereagh Street, and some specialist work goes to our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW. You deal with the Sydney office throughout. Our own staff move devices between the two labs every day, never a courier, at no charge to you.

Who Comes to the Sydney Office
Customers within about ten kilometres of the CBD usually drop in: Haymarket, The Rocks, Barangaroo, Pyrmont, Ultimo, Chippendale, Redfern, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Woolloomooloo, Potts Point, Elizabeth Bay, Paddington, Glebe, Balmain, Newtown, North Sydney, Kirribilli, Neutral Bay and Mosman. Customers from the rest of Sydney and regional NSW usually post or courier their device to this office, and many of them never need to visit. Customers in Canberra and the ACT post their device to us too: see data recovery for Canberra and the ACT.
Sending Your Device From Anywhere in NSW
Most of our customers post or courier their device to us, and it is safe as long as it is packed well. Put the device in a cardboard box with plenty of bubble wrap on every side, and choose a postal or courier service with tracking, signature on delivery and insurance, and keep the photo proof of delivery. Submit a new job first to get a job number and the address label to include in the box. Recovered data comes back to you on a new external drive or SSD, with free return delivery within Australia on every completed job. If you don’t want to go ahead, there’s no charge. You can pick it up from our office, organise your own courier to collect it, or pay $20 for return delivery, which covers shipping and handling to return it to you by Australia Post.
International customers are always welcome, and the easiest way to reach us from overseas is by email at help@payam.com.au.
Questions Sydney Customers Ask
Can I walk in without an appointment? Yes, to drop off a device. If you want to speak with a data recovery engineer, or you are collecting a device that is already with us, please phone 1300 444 800 to book a time first.
How much does data recovery cost in Sydney? The assessment is free and you get a written quote before any work begins. Economy service for most hard drives, SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards is usually between $350 and $1,750, and more for special cases such as damaged heads on very large drives; RAID and NAS jobs usually cost from $2,500 to $6,500 on Economy, and a basic backup from healthy drives starts at $350. Phones and tablets are a fixed price. Most recoveries are no fix, no fee. Some complex cases have an attempt fee, then a completion fee only if the recovery is successful. Phones and tablets have no attempt fee. You see your files before you pay. Full prices by device are on our data recovery cost page.
How long does it take? Economy service is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Priority and Emergency services bring that down to a few days, and the Emergency service is our fastest. We offer fast service in Sydney, Rhodes NSW, Melbourne and Brisbane, and devices delivered to our Perth or Adelaide offices go to our lab in Rhodes, NSW the same day, each afternoon, by overnight courier at no cost to you. Need it urgently? At our Sydney CBD, Melbourne, Brisbane and Rhodes NSW offices we can start the same day: bring the device in, get an urgent assessment and quote ($150 for a quote in 1 to 2 hours, or $500 in 2 to 3 hours for RAID and NAS), approve Emergency service and work starts straight away. Outside business hours an emergency assessment fee applies, and our staff may need 1 to 2 hours to reach the office. From Adelaide and Perth, work starts once the device reaches our Rhodes lab by overnight courier, usually the next business day. From Auckland, choose Emergency and we send it to our Rhodes lab the same day; otherwise parcels go weekly on Friday at no charge. The quote tells you the timeframe for your job.
Do I need to bring cables, the charger or the whole computer? Bring only the device you want the data recovered from: the bare hard drive or SSD, or the laptop, phone or tablet itself, without chargers, cables, bags or protective cases. If you would like the recovered files saved to your own external drive or SSD, bring that with it.
Can you tell me what is on the drive before I approve the quote? No. Until the recovery is done nobody can see the files. After the recovery we send you a file list or a video preview so you can check what came back before you pay.
I forgot my iPhone passcode. Can you get my photos? No, and neither can anyone else. Apple’s encryption means data cannot be recovered from a locked iPhone without the passcode. If you changed the passcode in the last 72 hours, Apple’s previous passcode option on supported iOS versions may let you back in, as our iPhone Unavailable guide explains. If the phone is damaged and you know the passcode, that is a different situation and we can usually help.
I am in North Sydney or Parramatta. Do I have to come in? You are welcome to. Castlereagh Street is a real office with real staff, and many customers prefer to hand over the device in person and meet the people who will work on it. If a visit is not practical, pack the device well and send it by post or courier with the job form; the recovered data is delivered back to you free of charge.
Where do I park near the Sydney office? The building has its own car park, the Piccadilly car park run by Secure Parking, entered from Castlereagh Street. Castlereagh Street is one way southbound, so approach via Market Street. The Citigroup Centre car park (Wilson Parking) and the Hilton Sydney car park (Secure Parking) are on Pitt Street, a short walk away. Rates change, so please check before you come.
Which station is closest to the Sydney office? St James Station and Gadigal Metro Station are each about a 3 minute walk, Town Hall Station is about 5 minutes and Martin Place Station about 7 minutes. The QVB light rail stop on George Street is about 5 minutes away.
How do I find the office when I arrive? Enter through the lobby of 133 Castlereagh Street, in Piccadilly Tower between Market Street and Park Street, and take the lifts to Level 21. It is our own office and lab, and a data recovery engineer works on site.
Coming from further away? We have no office in Wollongong, Newcastle or Canberra, and each has its own page on the fastest way to get your device to us: data recovery for Wollongong and the Illawarra, data recovery for Newcastle and the Hunter, and data recovery for Canberra and the ACT.
