FAQ: Can you assess my phone?

Short answer

You do not need an assessment for a phone. Phones have a fixed price and no upfront payment: we ask for the passcode, recover the data, copy it to a new hard drive and you pay at the end. If you want extra reassurance, just ask and we will happily accommodate it.

A phone can be brought in for an assessment prior to data recovery. This is permissible, provided the minimum fee for the service is accepted. Currently, in Australia, the cost for mobile phone data recovery is $800 (prices are subject to change). If a phone is physically damaged, broken, not turning on, out of storage, or not booting up, and the client agrees to this minimum fee, we generally do not require upfront payment. We simply request the passcode, and the device can be left with us. We will then recover the data, and once complete, all information will be copied and backed up onto a new hard drive, with payment due upon completion.

Consequently, there is no inherent need for an assessment as it operates on a fixed-price, no-fee service for phones. However, in special circumstances where a client wants extra reassurance, we have reviewed the phone while the owner was present. For example, a client who was visiting Australia and was reluctant to trust anyone as she was leaving the country asked us to review her iPhone while she waited. We explained that the process would be time-consuming and could not be done while she watched. Three days later, all her data was successfully retrieved.

Our approach involves dedicating sufficient time and refusing to give up, using specialised training and expertise. Given that we do not charge anything upfront, there is no reason to await an assessment or a quote. It is a fixed price, with payment only required at the end. Nevertheless, if there is a specific request for information, we are happy to accommodate it.
