Short answer
To the best of our knowledge, a Samsung Smart Switch backup made from a Samsung Galaxy phone has to be restored onto another Samsung phone, not onto other Android brands or iPhones. If you want your data on another brand, we can extract photos, messages, notes and other files from the backup with third-party software and give them to you as files to copy across.
Do I have to restore the Samsung Smart Switch backup on a Samsung phone, or can I use a different brand?
To the best of my knowledge, if you recover data from a Samsung Galaxy phone, you are required to restore the Samsung Smart Switch backup directly onto another Samsung phone.
I do not believe at this time that it is transferable to other Android phones, other brands, or iPhones.
You cannot perform the inverse action.
You can, however, transfer data from a Samsung phone to another phone.
However, if you have specifically provided us with a Samsung phone, and we have created a Smart Switch backup for you, then you must transfer it to another Samsung phone.
Alternatively, if you require other information recovered, we can extract items such as photos, messages, notes, and other files from the backup.
We can extract this data using third-party software and provide them as files that you can transfer manually or copy to a computer.
