After taking it to Apple I was told that i had damaged it beyond just the display and had actually damaged the hardware internally which is why it couldn’t turn on. This was confirmed by a repair shop who also said that there was no chance of recovering the over 8 years of photos and videos that i had on there which had not been backed up anywhere. Coming back home from an overseas conference trip, the last thing I needed was to be greeted by a non-starting desktop.
