What usually breaks on a USB flash drive?
The connector. On this drive the metal connector had separated from the circuit board, most likely from being dropped or bent while plugged in, so it could not make contact with any computer.
Can the connector just be glued or pushed back on?
No. Each pin has to be soldered back to the correct point on the board, accurately enough not to damage the surrounding traces. It is precision soldering work, and a slip destroys the paths the data travels along.
Is the memory chip usually still intact?

Hi, it’s Mike visiting Payam Data Recovery to give you a behind-the-scenes look at this real life case study of a broken USB drive. After inspecting the device closely, our data recovery specialist saw that the USB connector had been physically damaged, likely from being dropped or bent.
