If you live in Canberra or anywhere in the ACT and your hard drive, SSD, laptop, phone or RAID has failed, you can post it to our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW. We do not have an office in Canberra, and you do not need one: the assessment, the quote and the recovery work the same way whether you hand your device to us in Sydney or send it by post. Payam Data Recovery has been recovering data since 1998, from over 300,000 devices.
How to send your device from Canberra
- Tell us about it first. Fill in the free quote form or submit a job online. You get a job number to write on the parcel.
- Pack only the device. No cables, chargers, bags or cases. Wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a small, firm box so it cannot move around.
- Post it with tracking to our main data recovery lab: Payam Data Recovery, Suite 213, Level 2, 5 Rider Boulevard, Rhodes NSW 2138.
- Free assessment and written quote. Within 1 to 2 business days of your device arriving, we test it and send a written quote that explains the fault, the fix, the cost and the time. Nothing chargeable starts until you approve it.
- See your files before you pay. You tell us which files matter most. Before you pay for the recovery, we’ll send you a list of your recovered files so you can check them. If any of the files you listed are missing, tell us and we’ll search again.
- Your data comes back to you. Recovered data is returned on a new drive, and return delivery within Australia is free on a completed, paid job.

Phones and tablets
Phones and tablets work differently. There is no assessment and no quote: the price is fixed at $795 Economy, $1,500 Priority or $2,500 Emergency, including GST. Phones and tablets are always no fix, no fee. There is no attempt fee, and you see your files before you pay. You need to know the device passcode. Start with the free quote form and we will send you the next step. More on iPhone and iPad data recovery.
What it costs
Most hard drive recoveries cost from $375 to $1,750 on our Economy service, whatever the size of the drive. Priority and Emergency are faster and cost more. About 90% of our jobs are no fix, no fee. The hardest 10% carry an attempt fee, which is part of the quoted price and is always stated in your quote before you approve anything. RAID and NAS jobs are usually about $800 to about $5,000 and carry an attempt fee, also stated in your quote. Our price guide explains each type of job.
If you decide not to go ahead
If you decline the quote, we can post your device back to you for $20 to cover postage and handling, or you can collect it from us at no charge.
Questions Canberra customers ask
Do you have an office in Canberra?
No. Canberra and ACT customers post their device to our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW, or drop it at our Sydney CBD office.
Is it safe to post a failed hard drive?
Yes, if it is packed well. Wrap the drive in bubble wrap, use a small firm box, and choose a tracked service so you can follow it. Do not keep trying to power it on before you send it, because a failing drive can get worse each time it runs.
How long does it take?
The free assessment takes 1 to 2 business days from when your device arrives. Your written quote then gives the time for each service level, Economy, Priority and Emergency, so you can choose.
Can a business or government office in the ACT send a RAID or server?
Yes. Read about RAID and NAS data recovery. We sign your own NDA on request.
