Payam Data Recovery Melbourne
Payam Data Recovery Melbourne, at Level 11, 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000, is a full service lab in the Melbourne CBD and a leading data recovery lab in Australia, run by a company that has been recovering data since 1998. We recover data from faulty or physically damaged hard drives, SSDs, RAID and NAS units, Apple iPhones, MacBooks and iMacs, mobile phones, USB flash drives, memory cards, Microsoft Surface devices and all other brands of computers, phones and tablets. Our Melbourne facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring the highest success rates for clients in Melbourne and across VIC.
Every job except phones and tablets starts with a free assessment and a written quote, and no work is charged until you approve it. Phones and tablets are a fixed price with no assessment or quote: the work starts when you submit the job, and you pay at the end, only when the data is recovered.

What Melbourne Customers Bring Us
Every brand and every kind of device. Recent Melbourne jobs include a Seagate desktop hard drive that started clicking with years of family photos on it, a Samsung external drive that was dropped and began clicking, a photographer’s external drive holding 50,000 photos, a music producer’s portable SSD that went unresponsive with 12,000 music files on it, a 2021 M1 iMac that would not turn on, and MacBook Pros that would not power up, one of them after liquid damage. We also see RAID and NAS units with failed disks, Samsung and Google phones, memory cards from cameras and USB sticks that no longer mount. We are listed by Apple as a data recovery provider, and Apple Retail Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers refer their customers to us, as do IT companies and computer repair shops.
Where Your Device Is Recovered
Most of the work is done here at Lonsdale Street, and some specialist work goes to our main data recovery lab in Rhodes, NSW. You deal with the Melbourne office throughout, and we move devices between our own labs at no cost to you.
Visiting the Melbourne Office
We are open Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5:30pm, and Friday, 9am to 5pm. You can walk in without an appointment to drop off a device. If you would like to speak with a data recovery engineer, or you are collecting a device that is already with us, please book a time first so nobody is kept waiting.
Our Data Recovery Engineer and Melbourne Office Manager leads a small, specialised team at Lonsdale Street, backed by the data recovery engineers at our main lab in Rhodes, NSW.
Getting here. Our lab is on Level 11 of Clarence Chambers, 456 Lonsdale Street, between Queen and William Streets. Look for the Clarence Chambers sign out the front; Piccolo Me café, with its black and yellow pillars, is a useful landmark. Go in through the sliding glass doors and take the lift on the left to Level 11, where reception will meet you. The building is wheelchair accessible.
- Train: Flagstaff Station, about a 5 minute walk.
- Tram: route 30 to Flagstaff Station/La Trobe St (stop 3), about a 6 minute walk.
- Parking: paid parking at Secure Parking next door, 460 Lonsdale Street, and metered street parking nearby. There is no loading zone for a quick drop-off.
Who Comes to the Melbourne Office
Many customers drop in from the CBD and nearby West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Docklands, Southbank and Carlton, and from inner suburbs such as Fitzroy, Collingwood, Richmond, South Yarra, Prahran, St Kilda, Port Melbourne, Footscray, Brunswick, Northcote, Hawthorn, Kew and Camberwell. Others come from further out, including Reservoir, Box Hill, Glen Waverley, St Albans, Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee, Craigieburn, Sunbury, Dandenong, Berwick, Pakenham and Frankston, and from Geelong. Customers from regional Victoria usually post or courier their device to this office, and many of them never need to visit.
Sending Your Device From Anywhere in Victoria
Most of our customers post or courier their device to us, and it is safe as long as it is packed well. Put the device in a cardboard box with plenty of bubble wrap on every side, send it with a postal or courier service that offers tracking, signature on delivery and insurance, and keep the photo proof of delivery. Submit a new job first to get a job number and the address label to include in the box. Recovered data comes back to you on a new external drive or SSD, with free return delivery on every completed job. If you decide not to go ahead after the free quote, you can collect the device in person, arrange your own courier at no charge from us, or ask us to post it back for $20 to cover the cost.
International customers are always welcome, and the easiest way to reach us from overseas is by email at help@payam.com.au.
Questions Melbourne Customers Ask
Can I walk in without an appointment? Yes, to drop off a device. If you want to speak with a data recovery engineer, or you are collecting a device that is already with us, please book a time first.
How much does data recovery cost in Melbourne? The assessment is free and you get a written quote before any work begins. Economy service for most hard drives, SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards is usually between $375 and $1,750, and more for special cases such as damaged heads on very large drives; RAID and NAS jobs usually cost from about $800 to about $5,000, and complex multi-drive cases are quoted individually. Phones and tablets are a fixed price, paid only when the data is recovered.
How long does it take? Economy service is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Priority and Emergency services bring that down to a few days, and the Emergency service is our fastest. We offer fast service in Sydney, Rhodes, Melbourne and Brisbane, and devices delivered to our Perth or Adelaide offices go to our Rhodes lab the same day, each afternoon, by overnight courier at no cost to you. We never promise a same-day start, because the fastest safe method depends on the fault. The quote tells you the timeframe for your job.
Do I need to bring cables, the charger or the whole computer? Bring only the device you want the data recovered from: the hard drive or SSD (an external drive stays in its own case), or the laptop, phone or tablet itself, without chargers, cables, bags or protective cases. If you would like the recovered files saved to your own external drive or SSD, bring that with it.
Can you tell me what is on the drive before I approve the quote? No. Until the recovery is done nobody can see the files. After the recovery we send you a file list or a video preview so you can check what came back before you pay.
I forgot my iPhone passcode. Can you get my photos? No, and neither can anyone else. Apple’s encryption makes a locked iPhone unrecoverable without the passcode. If the phone is damaged and you know the passcode, that is a different situation and we can usually help.
I am in Geelong or regional Victoria. Do I have to come in? You are welcome to. Lonsdale Street is a real office with real staff, and many customers prefer to hand over the device in person and meet our team. If a visit is not practical, pack the device well and send it by post or courier with the job form; the recovered data is delivered back to you free of charge.
